On the first day of freshman year, I found myself in a new school, and a new state. New everything, really, since I had been educated at home up to that day. My school which once consisted of my mom, brothers, and me around the dining room table grew to 2400 students in an instant.
In that year full of firsts, I learned so much about myself. I joined our 6A marching band, became a section leader as a sophomore, and as a junior was selected to be Drum Major after a rigorous nomination and audition process.
I grew from a nervous freshman, not knowing a soul and having never set foot in a traditional classroom, to leading the largest organization on campus within two years.
I continue to add value to organizations through various leadership and founding positions. As an authentic and compassionate leader, I am dedicated to serving and empowering those around me.
I am a two-year Drum Major for an award-winning 6A Marching Band with 200+ members. This includes an annual rigorous, 30-hour audition process, 8 days of extensive leadership training, and leading over 250 hours of rehearsal outside the regular school day.
I set benchmarks, establish organizational culture, facilitate team building, and lead rehearsals. I direct the band at games and in competitions, where we were awarded Area Finalists.
Because of my advocacy to a national music organization, our band was awarded $6,000 in new equipment to improve the program.
Starting Off Strong is a mentorship program led by rigorously-selected seniors highly trained in leadership.
Throughout the year, I devote over 150 hours to lead 28 freshmen through facilitating weekly lessons. I also mentor them through in and out-of-school life to ensure a successful 1st year of high school.
I founded Supplies for Success to provide school supplies for refugee students participating in the tutoring and kids club where I volunteer.
I raise awareness about the refugee community in Dallas and receive donations to provide all the school district's required supplies. Through this advocacy, I collected, organized, and distributed over 5,400 school supplies last fall.
I am part of the Leadership Team and lead the Student Speaking Team for Northwest Students, a ministry serving over 250 students in grades 6-12.
I teach on Sunday mornings & Wednesday nights, and I mentor middle school girls in the program.
I am the Founding Vice President of our school's chapter of FCA. I am also on the Speaking Team for our bi-weekly meetings.
For the last 3 years, I have served on the Teen Council for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. We promote classical music to Dallas area students through outreach initiatives and service projects.
